Bronx, NY
Sistas on the Rise is a collective of young women living in low-income communities of color in the Bronx, NY. Sistas on the Rise seeks to build inclusive sisterhood by providing a safe space for sisters to tap into their own power and take action for social change and justice. Young women, who were or are teen mothers, ages 13-21, are at the center of the work because their voices and experiences are often under-represented, yet incredibly valuable to building a social justice movement. Sistas on the Rise is working on an Education Organizing Campaign to gather and motivate student moms to ensure the creation of more daycare slots in the Martha Nielson School, and ensure that young mothers receive an adequate high school education.
