In 2008, Third Wave Foundation provided $34,750 of critical funding for young women who would otherwise be unable to afford an abortion. Abortion is not covered by many insurance companies and rarely covered by Medicaid or other government insurance programs, making cost one of the most severe barriers for young women seeking to terminate a pregnancy. Of the funds given in 2008, forty percent went to women and girls ages 11-19, and the overwhelming majority of all funds were devoted to second-trimester procedures.
Sistas on the Rise and Casa Atabex Aché were highlighted in the New York Times for leveraging new grant dollars to strengthen their Bronx communities.
In December 2006, Third Wave celebrated 10 years of activism and philanthropy led by young women and trans youth. Learn more about the event…
