Johanna Ocaña is very excited to join
Third Wave (especially in light of Holly Young’s culinary abilities and Tara Ellison’s wonderful eye makeup skills)! She is currently the Executive Assistant Intern and a senior at Columbia University majoring in Political Science. Johanna is the proud daughter of Latin American immigrants. This identification prompted her initial involvement in social justice and anti-racist initiatives on Columbia’s campus. Primarily, she has worked with Lucha, a campus social justice organization, building coalitions amongst progressive and or students of color to speak out against campus and national injustices ranging from campus bias incidents to the war in Iraq. Johanna is particularly interested in the role of identity in shaping politics and drawing connections from personal struggles to systemic injustices. When she is not in meetings or flyering, Johanna can be found singing along to Argentinean ballads from the 1970’s or rejecting patriarchy through the beautiful songs of Paquita la del Barrio.
