Ash Hammond is happy to be joining Third Wave as an External Relations Intern. She was born and raised in Zimbabwe and although she misses home every day, her experience of growing up in a country with widespread poverty, social inequality and political suppression, made her passionate about working for social justice. Ash is currently involved in many progressive LGBT organizations in New York. She is an active member of FIERCE, an organization that empowers LGBT youth of color to organize and address issues that face them, such as homelessness, gentrification, transphobia and homophobia. She has also worked for reproductive justice for low-income and incarcerated LGBT folks with Queers for Economic Justice, and is an intern with the Sylvia Rivera Law Project. Ash is secretly a decent visual artist and likes to make gifts that make people happy. She is a senior at New York University, double majoring in Social and Cultural Analysis and Urban Design and Architecture Studies.
