The New York Botanical Garden is a museum of plants, an educational institution, and a scientific research organization. Founded in 1891 and now a National Historic Landmark, it is one of the greatest botanical gardens in the world and the largest in any city in the United States, distinguished by the beauty of its diverse landscape and extensive collections and gardens, as well as by the scope and excellence of its programs in horticulture, education, and science. They are hiring an Associate Director of Foundation Relations.

The position is responsible for raising funds for The New York Botanical Garden’s general operating budget, as well as capital, endowment, and special projects funding through research, solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship of new and existing foundation donors and government grant agencies. The position is full-time, reports to the Associate Vice President for Foundation Relations, and is located in the Bronx.

Safe Horizon is the nation’s largest provider of services and programs for victims of domestic violence, child abuse, human trafficking, rape and sexual assault. The Safe Horizon Streetwork Project is a project of Safe Horizon committed to reaching out to homeless and disenfranchised youth of New York City. They are hiring a Housing Specialist and a Social Worker.

The Housing Specialist position provides assistance, information, and support to residents in domestic violence shelters around securing safe, appropriate housing using subsidies and/or other available resources in the city that suit the individual’s needs and to maintain residential stability. The Social Worker works with the Domestic Violence Emergency Shelter programs to offer a comprehensive range of services including counseling, advocacy, intervention, and support to meet the needs of victims and their families.

The Applied Research Center seeks NYC Research Fellow

The Applied Research Center (ARC) is a racial justice think tank and home for media and activism. ARC is built on rigorous research and creative use of new technology. Their goal is to popularize the need for racial justice and prepare people to fight for it. ARC’s work is concentrated in four program areas: Strategic Research, Leadership Action Network, & Strategic Partnerships and Media, which also publishes ColorLines.com, the national news site on race and politics.

The Applied Research Center is currently seeking applicants for a 6-month research fellowship to start no later than February 1, 2011. The fellowship will be dedicated to an ARC research project exploring the impacts of immigration detention and deportation on families and the parental rights of immigrants. The project will culminate in a report. The position will be based out of ARC’s New York City office and will report directly to the Senior Research Associate.

The Jacksonville Area Sexual Minority Youth Network, Inc (JASMYN), is a community organization with a 14-yr history of education and advocacy by and for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQQ) young people in the South. Through building empowerment, reproductive justice awareness, education, advocacy and support, JASMYN also works against bullying and harassment in schools. JASMYN is a Third Wave grantee.
